Seeing as the most of Matchday 7 was mid week, we are only able to do a short review of the state of the table as we see it. Matchday 7 was also split into a strange calendar due to the new European league football calendar.
Tuesday 17th September 2024
Mallorca technically kicked off matchday 7 before matchday 6 had even started..confusing we know...But we were treated to a good contest between them and away side Real Sociedad with the hosts coming away as 1-0 victors thanks to a Abdon Prats penalty in the first half. Sociedad dominated most of the possession and attacking stats but Mallorca managed to hold on to the slim lead.

Another strange scheduling situation for Leganes and Athletic Bilbao. The home side have started the season in somewhat decent form for a newly promoted side, the best of the 3 so far. This wasn't good enough to get over the visitors from Bilbao though who went away 2-0 victors with second half goals scored by Dani Vivian and Inaki Williams to secure the 3 points.

Kicking off matchday 7 was Sevilla Vs. Valladolid, with the home side in desperate need to try and gain some momentum and try to avoid a repeat of the last couple of seasons. Luckily for the home crowd, they managed to pull away with the 3 points with a late winner in the 85th minute from Ejuke to make it 2-1, this was unfortunately followed by a dismissal at the 90th minute to Teixeira for a challenge late in the game.
Valencia then hosted Osasuna and held them to a 0-0 draw, a point earned for the home side but 2 points lost for their northern rivals who have started the season well.
The last game of the day saw league holders Real Madrid hosting Alaves. The hosts do what Real Madrid are known to do and dominated the game going 2-0 up by half time and then scoring the 3rd in the early stages of the second half. Mbappe seems to be hitting some consistency with goalscoring as well now. The game seemed all but complete when Alaves staged a late comeback scoring two in the 85th and 86th minutes respectively to give the hosts a scare in the dying section of the match, they held on for the 3-2 victory though.

Kicking off the second day of games was Girona and Rayo Vallecano which on paper looks like a boring 0-0 game, but a look at the stats shows the Girona were seriously unlucky to not go away with all three points here, over 70% of the possession and 11 shots paints one story, but the single shot on target from the home side shows that their attacking options were tired clearly.
The second match of the Wednesday was league leaders Barcelona against Getafe, the home side having been beaten in Europe were looking to maintain their perfect winning start to the season and with a 19th minute goal from top scorer Lewandowski, they managed to hold out a 1-0 victory against the side from Madrid. Dominant display by Barcelona as we have come to expect so far this season but it didn't stop Getafe giving them a couple of scares, a good clean sheet to honour the injured Ter Stegen as well.

The last day of the matchday 7 took us to Las Palmas where the home side hosted an in form Betis. A shock start as Moleiro sent the home side into the lead after just 9 minutes which would have given Betis a wake up call. Giovani Lo Celso equalised in the 45 +3 minute at the end of the first half to continue his fine form this season so far. Second half didn't come with any goals unfortunately and it was a relatively even contest throughout, the bottom side of the league picking up a much needed point.
In another game of teams needing points and a team who is flying so far this season, Espanyol hosted Villarreal, with the hosts going 1-0 up late in the first half. This was to be spoiled by the other striker who is in fine form, Ayoze Perez scoring not 5 minutes later to tie the game 1-1 at half time. and exciting stoppage time! The game was won by the visitors when that man again, Perez scored in the 63rd minute to take home the 2-1 victory and leave Espanyol sitting dangerously around the relegation zone.
The final game of the matchday is an oddly exciting one this season, Celta Vigo who have started well were hosting Atletico Madrid. Because of Celta's good start, this game was actually a lot more competitive than seasons gone by. The away side are still to lose a game and they continued this form here, Julian Alverez scoring a goal right at the death of the match in the 90th minute to take the 3 points back to Madrid with them. They may have been the winners in this game but Celta absolutely battered them at moments throughout the match and could be an exciting team to watch this season in that mid table spot.
