No match coverage for matchday 3 but lets have a look at the state of the league after 3 games played.

After 3 match days what can we take away from the season at this really early stage?

  • Barcelona have started perfectly with 3 consecutive 2-1 victories over very tough opponents in Valencia, Athletic Club and Rayo Vallecano

  • Valencia have really struggled at the start of the season with no wins in 3 so far.

  • Getafe and Betis with the best defensive records so far but it's unfortunately matched with no goals for either team really.

  • Real Madrid have struggled to find rhythm with the new signings and are getting goals from more unexpected players than the usuals from last season.

  • Celta Vigo and Villarreal with one of the games of the season so far with the 4-3 battle between the two surprise clubs near the top of the table.

  • Last seasons stand out Girona were struggling in their first couple game but a confidence inspiring 4-0 victory might start to be the turn of their form (right in time for Champions League games).

  • Out of the newly promoted teams, Leganes and Valladolid seem to be taking the league by the horns while Espanyol seem to be struggling to settle back into top division football.

  • Rather unpredictably - Celta Vigo and Villarreal have the best scoring records, that 7 goal game will have helped a lot in that.

  • Top scorer after 3 games is Barcelona's Robert Lewandowski with 3 goals.

The league is setting up to be a slightly surprising one at the looks of it, just waiting on teams like Real Madrid and Atletico to start firing on all cylinders to keep up with Barcelona before it starts to run away from the other sides. Espanyol and Valencia really need to figure themselves out to avoid the relegation drop. Looking good so far! Still so much can change, these are really early days.
